Our adult sailing courses offer an introduction to the world of sailing and water sport for those 18+

We provide options for adults in both keelboats and dinghies. All courses follow nationally recognized Sail Canada curriculums. 

Adult courses are an excellent starting point for those interested in getting on the water. Successful completion opens the pathway to Keelboat or Dinghy Membership. Learn more about membership options here.

Keelboat

Basic Cruising

Basic Cruising is an entry level course for beginner sailors. The purpose is to be able to safely sail in familiar waters, as both skipper and crew, in moderate wind and sea conditions. This course will be focused on developing basic sailing skills and will help you gain the knowledge needed to continue your sailing education.

There are 5 spring offerings of this course. Classes occur both ashore in a classroom setting, as well as afloat in an RPSA club owned keelboat. See registration for course offerings and schedules.



Dinghy

CANSail 1/2

Ages 18+
No Experience Necessary

This eight-session program, for adults ages 18 and up, is designed for individuals with little or no sailing experience. Our Sail Canada certified instructors will deliver a progression of lessons, lead on-water activities, and provide directed feedback to help you reach your goals. Topics to be covered include knots, points of sail, capsizing, basic helm skills, terminology and much more. 

The CANSail Program is Sail Canada’s national Learn-To-Sail curriculum for dinghy sailing. The program is made up of core standards which promote a progression of core sailing skills and knowledge.

With a comprehensive curriculum, and plenty of on-water practice time, this course is an exceptional introduction to the sport of sailing. Programs will be run using C420 dinghies; 2-person training dinghies designed for developing and refining beginner sailing skills.

Discover Sailing

Ages 18+
No Experience Necessary

Discover sailing at RPSA! This single-day group sailing lesson is perfect for individuals ages 18+ who would like to see what sailing is all about.

Participants will learn basic sailing terminology, as well as some introductory helm skills including steering and adjusting sails. Lessons will be run using C420 dinghies; 2-person training dinghies which are designed for developing and refining beginner sailing skills.

Spring Offerings:
Saturday June 10th | 1pm to 5pm
Saturday June 24th | 1pm to 5pm
