Opti Race Team

Ages: 8 to 13
Prerequisite: CANSail 1

The Opti Race Team is ideal for active youth, ages 8 to 13, who want to level up their sailing skills! Sailors will learn how to compete in races, all while building confidence, independence, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun team-based environment.

Programs are run using the Optimist Dinghy – an ideal boat for younger or smaller sailors, and those who are new to racing. Due to a smaller sail area, it is recommended that sailors weigh less than 110lbs.

Youth Race Team

Ages: 12 to 18
Prerequisite: CANSail 2

The Rocky Point Youth Race Team is tailored for sailors wanting to explore competitive sailboat racing. Sailors train twice a week at Rocky Point, developing advanced boat handling skills and learning how to use race tactics and strategies.

Youth Race Team options are available in both C420 and Laser Dinghies. Coaches will work with sailors to find the best boat for their development level and goals.

The C420 is a double-handed youth development class: sailors race with a partner, and will develop strong teamwork and communication skills. This class is perfect for youth who are new to racing, or enjoy racing together with friends.

The Laser is a single-handed class, popular worldwide. The most competitive class in BC, this class is ideal for sailors with some racing experience who want to improve and refine their racing skills at a high performance level.
