, I will be stepping up into the role of Sail Director for the coming year. I’ve sailed at RPSA since 2015 as a program participant, volunteer, and coach, and I look forward to continuing to work with club members and local sailors through our sailing programs.
As we near the end of the season, we are beginning to organize the club’s Boat-Out Day. We use this event to winterize our boats and equipment, and bring them into safe storage until the spring. This event also provides an opportunity to meet other club members and coaches. Every year, we’re incredibly grateful for the help our members provide to complete this task.
This year, we are planning to hold Boat-Out Day on Sunday, Nov. 27th. We will be meeting in front of the Old Mill Boathouse at 9AM, and will be working both up at the Old Mill Boathouse and down on the docks / launch ramp. We estimate that we’ll finish up around 3pm, however any amount of help is appreciated!
If you are wanting to volunteer, please fill out the sign-up form linked below so that we have an estimate of numbers.
The summer is quickly coming to a close. Our final summer program ends on September 2nd, the race team will be headed to their last regatta of the summer, Whistler regatta, and adult summer program comes to a close this weekend as well. On the 16th we had our August board meeting, and you can find the meeting minutes attached. Here are a few updates for the rest of the season:
End of Summer BBQ social
It was scheduled for the 27th of August; however, we have to reschedule due to limited staff. It will now occur on the 4th of September. The aim will be to get on the water at around 11:00 to start sailing/racing. After this we will do a BBQ social after racing comes to an end.
Thursday nights should continue into and throughout September.
Our next board meeting is set for September 20, 2022 at 7:30 pm at the Old Mill Boathouse. They will continue to run every month on the 3rd Tuesday, until December, when we will be holding the annual general meeting on the 13th of December.
The summer is in full force right now, our first full round of summer program came and went, out race team is currently on its way to the BC summer games, and we are having beautiful weather and great wind for an exciting sail. We had to cancel our July Board meeting because we did not meet quorum, so here are a few updates for membership:
Programs have run without a hiccup. Big red’s engine was having problems early in July, so it was sent in to Inlet Marine. Currently of our boats are working. The need for dredging has become even more apparent, especially with some of the recent low tides, as it is narrower and harder to get through than ever. In addition to our summer programs, our summer Adult program is starting up on Saturday July 23rd, running from 1-5 every Saturday, and I started a weekday adult program running on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-8 which began on the 18th, and will be running until August 10th.
Summer Race-team began on July 10th. The formerly scheduled training camp in Surrey for last weekend had to be cancelled, but will be rescheduled sometime later in the summer. Currently they are headed to Prince George to compete for their respective zones in the BC Summer Games.
