Youth Summer Sailing Camps


All courses run from 9:00 to 4:00, Monday to Friday; drop off available from 8:30 and pickup until 4:30. Sailors need to bring a bag lunch, a change of clothes, sunscreen and a hat. All sailors feet will get wet, so old running shoes are recommended (closed toes are mandatory). Our summer programs have the same tax benefits as day care!

When registered, the parents or guardians of the participants will receive an email one week before the program begins of confirmation that will also contain information about the course. If you would like a confirmation sooner please email info@rpsa.ca.

Registration can be compleated online by credit card (service fee will apply) or in person/by mail by cash or cheque. Cheques can be mailed to the Old Mill Boathourse:

Wet Feet - Beginners (age 4 - 7)

Looking for something other than day care? The Wet Feet program is for ages 4-7 and conducted by a certified CYA sailing instructor. This course is designed to introduce our youngest sailors to the ocean, boating safety, sailing with an instructor, and the Burrard inlet through a variety of games and activities.

Cost: $140
Morning (9am-12pm):  June 30-July 4, July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25, July 28-Aug 1, Aug 4-8, Aug 11-15, Aug 18-24,

Aug 25-29.

Junior Sailing - Beginners (age 7 - 9)

This one week program, designed for kids aged 7 to 9, introduces boating safety and basic sailing skills in a safe and fun environment. Whether they are on a day trip, exploring the inlet, or on a treasure hunt for a pirate’s lost gold, these sailors learn that being safe on the water is fun.

Cost: $230

June 30-July 4, July 7-11, July 21-25, July 28-Aug 1, Aug 11-15, Aug 18-24, Aug 25-29.

GirlPower Sailing - Beginners (age 7 - 10)

This one week program is designed for girls only aged 7 to 10. The program is similar to Junior Sailing, however it places an emphasis on encouraging the participation of younger girls in sailing and physical activity.

Cost: $230

Summer Fun - (formally White Sail I,II,III now CANsail 1&2) (age 10+)

This two week program, designed for kids ages 10 and up, will allow sailors the opportunity to work towards Sail Canada's CANsail 1 or 2 certification. It is designed for individuals with little to no sailing experience. There will be a day trip at the end of the first week and a FREE BBQ on the last day. This is our most popular program and is the perfect starting point for someone who wants to begin sailing.

Cost: $380

June 30-July 11, July 14-25, July 28-Aug 8, Aug 11-22.

CANsail 3 (formally Bronze IV) (pre-req. Summer Fun's CANsail 2) (age 11 - 18)

Sailors will learn advanced sailing skills including the sail theory that will make them go fast, as well as getting to experiment with different types of boats. 

Cost: $420

June 30-July 11, July 28-Aug 8.

CANsail 4 (formally Bronze V) (pre-req. CANsail 3) (age 11 - 18)

Sailors will build on advanced sailing skills learnt in CANsail 3.

Opti Bronze (pre-req. Juniors or Girl Power) (age 7 - 13)

For all the sailors who have finished the Junior Sailing/Girl Power course, but are not old or sure enough for the Summer Fun course, we designed this program. Sailors will be in an Optimist, which is raced internationally, and will prepare themselves for the summer fun course by working on their basic sailing skills. One person per boat.
 

Cost: $270

July 14-18, Aug 4-8.

Volunteer Training (pre-req. CANsail 3 or Bronze IV) (age 14 - 18)

This program is designed for those sailing students who have completed their CANsail 3 and are now ready to start learning to be a sailing instructor. This course offers certificates for CPR-C, Emergency First-Aid, and the Pleasure Craft Operator Card. This course will covers most of the pre-requisites to joining a BC Sailing sanctioned instructor Clinic, and is mandatory before volunteering at RPSA.

Cost: $260

Learn to Race  (age 7 - 18)

This program is designed for kids who wish to participate in the race team but have no experience. During this course they will spend one week learning the fundamentals of racing in a regatta and then the second week they will be participating in Commodore’s Cup Regatta at RVYC.

Race Team Events

The race team is open to individuals who have a good amount of sailing experience and wish to use their sailing skills in a more competitive fashion. There are a limited number of spots available in any of the fleets; Laser, 420 and Optimist. The race team members often participate a number of BC Youth Circuit Regattas. Gear will be assigned to team members and they will be responsible to look after it. The race team is open to all sailors with minimal experience.

Please note that a 10% discount applies to all 2014 sailing programs taken by people who have a membership as either an Adult or Family.
